Liberia's President Sirleaf Calls for Sacrifice from Harvard Grads

( - Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf officiated at the Harvard Class of 2011 graduation ceremony.

At the commencement exercises, she said: “The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them. If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough. If you start off with a small dream, you may not have much left when it is fulfilled … “You also have to be ready for sacrifice, because life will make demands on you.”

Sirleaf, who is up for reelection this November, spent much of her speech discussing her administration’s achievements during her first six-year term. Political campaigning in Liberia begins this week.

The Liberian head of state also made a stop in Columbia, South Carolina, to speak at the investiture of Bishop David R. Daniels, Jr.

Daniels, a native of Liberia, was invested as President of the Council of Bishops of the Global African Methodist Episcopal Church. Mayor Steve Benjamin says Daniels chose Columbia as the site of his investiture because of his previous work with Allen University and the Lutheran Theological Seminary.
