NEW YORK, May 30 (UPI) _ The New York Post
is reporting that the bronze casket that carried President Kennedy's body from Dallas
to Washington was dumped in the Atlantic Ocean to keep it out of the hands of memorabilia
collectors.
The Post today cites newly uncovered assassination
documents that will be released to the public Tuesday.
The casket has long been the center of speculation
because of its mysterious disappearance.
But the Post says the papers now reveal
it was dropped in 1965 from a military plane into 9,000 feet of water in the Atlantic
Ocean near the Maryland/Delaware border in an area normally used for dumping munitions.
The murdered president was buried at Arlington
National Cemetery in a mahogany coffin bought to replace the bronze one, which was
missing a handle and had been damaged.
