LOS ANGELES, June 10 (UPI) _ The mother of O.J. Simpson's 24-year-old girlfriend says she's worried about her daughter's welfare because the former football star admitted to her that the two had used cocaine.

Cathy Bellmore told reporters today in Los Angeles that she met Simpson and said she was concerned about the couple's drug use, and he responded that he and her daughter, Christie Prody, had used cocaine but "wouldn't be using it any more."

Prody bears a striking resemblance to Simpson's slain former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and, like Nicole, she also worked as a cocktail waitress.

Bellmore said she believes the 51-year-old Simpson is "taking advantage of the trust of a young woman who is half his age, keeping her from her loved ones and not taking care of her or respecting her as a boyfriend should."

The allegations come just two days before the fifth anniversary of the stabbing and slashing deaths of Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Simpson was acquitted of murder charges following a sensational, nationally televised trial, but found liable for the killings and ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages to his former wife's estate and Goldman's parents after a civil trial.

The newest accusations by Bellmore may affect Simpson's custody battle against Nicole's parents, Lou and Juditha Brown, for his two young children with Nicole.

Attorney Gloria Allred, who was once the Brown family's spokeswoman, has asked the Los Angeles County Department of Family and Children's Services to look into the drug allegations and determine if 13-year-old Sydney and 10-year-old Justin are safe in Simpson's care.
